Land acknowledgement

As an agency of the Government of Ontario with a mandate to conserve, interpret and share Ontario’s heritage, the Ontario Heritage Trust operates properties and activities throughout the province. The Trust acknowledges these lands as the traditional and treaty territories of many Indigenous peoples, including the Anishinaabeg, Anisininew, Cree, Haudenosaunee, Wendat and Lunaapeew, who have lived, stewarded and shared these lands for thousands of years. Today, this land is home to many diverse First Nations, Métis, Inuit and global Indigenous peoples.

We honour the vital role that Indigenous peoples hold as stewards of these lands. We recognize our responsibilities as treaty people and are committed to working authentically and collaboratively with Indigenous peoples to care for the lands on which we live.

The Ontario Heritage Trust is actively working toward reconciliation by fostering deeper understandings of our past and present, respecting Indigenous knowledge and sovereignty, and creating space for the diversity of Indigenous voices in Ontario.
