Bio: Born in Mount Pleasant, Hardy studied law in Brantford, and began his own practice in 1865. He quickly gained a reputation as a brilliant and skilled lawyer. First elected to the provincial legislature in 1873, Hardy became Commissioner of Crown Lands in 1889. In this position, he drafted legislation that established Algonquin Provincial Park. Hardy became the fourth premier of Ontario from 1896 to 1899, during which the province's statutes were extensively consolidated. He died in Toronto in 1901.
