John Ecker, Chair, Whitby
John Ecker, de Whitby, est cadre dans les domaines de la communication, du marketing, de l’image de marque et de la collecte de fonds. Plus récemment, il a occupé le poste de directeur, Famille de foi et projets spéciaux, à l’archidiocèse de Toronto, où il a dirigé des activités de guérison et de réconciliation autochtones. En 2022, il a été responsable du programme et de la production lors de la visite du pape à Iqaluit, au Nunavut, et a reçu une médaille papale du pape François pour son travail. Il a également supervisé le développement de la marque et le marketing pour la campagne Famille dans la foi de l’archidiocèse et a dirigé le repositionnement stratégique du Bureau pour les réfugiés de l’archidiocèse. Auparavant, il a été vice-président d’Indspire (l’ancienne Fondation nationale des réalisations autochtones) et a occupé des postes de directeur à la Fondation Trillium de l’Ontario et à ECHO : améliorer la santé des femmes en Ontario, et à la Chambre de commerce de Toronto.
Il est président des prix June Callwood de l’Ontario, qui récompensent le bénévolat. Il est membre du conseil d’administration du Fonds ontarien des attractions culturelles. Il siège également au Conseil des gouverneurs du Collège Durham avec des campus à Whitby et à Oshawa. M. Ecker a précédemment siégé au conseil d’administration de Crédit Canada et a présidé le conseil d’administration de la bibliothèque publique de Whitby, le Waterview Child Care Centre, la Lynde Marsh Alliance et Heritage Whitby (LACAC). Au niveau international, il a créé l’organisme Bimini Bound qui a envoyé plus de 10 000 livres et ressources pédagogiques aux écoles de l’île de Bimini, aux Bahamas.
En 2025, le lieutenant-gouverneur de l’Ontario a reconnu les services rendus par M. Ecker à sa collectivité, en Ontario et au Canada, en lui remettant la médaille du couronnement du roi Charles III.
Il a obtenu son diplôme de photographie au Fanshawe College de London, en Ontario, et sa licence en sciences politiques à l’université de Waterloo.
John Ecker of Whitby is a communications, marketing, branding and fundraising executive. Most recently, he served as the Director, Family of Faith & Special Projects at Archdiocese of Toronto where he led Indigenous healing and reconciliation activities. In 2022, he was the Program and Production Lead for the Pope’s visit to Iqaluit, Nunavut and received a Papal Medal from Pope Francis for his work. He also oversaw brand development and marketing for the archdiocese’s Family of Faith Campaign and led the strategic re-positioning of the archdiocese’s Office for Refugees. Previously, he served as Vice President at Indspire (the former National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation) and held director-level positions at the Ontario Trillium Foundation, ECHO: Improving Women’s Health in Ontario, and the Toronto Board of Trade.
He is Chair of Ontario's June Callwood Awards for voluntarism. He is a Board member of the Ontario Cultural Attractions Fund. He also serves on the Board of Governors of Durham College, with campuses in Whitby and Oshawa. Ecker previously served on the Board of Credit Canada and was chair of the Whitby Public Library Board, the Waterview Child Care Centre, the Lynde Marsh Alliance and Heritage Whitby (LACAC). Internationally, he established Bimini Bound, which sent over 10,000 books and learning resources to schools on the island of Bimini, Bahamas.
In 2025, the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario recognized Ecker’s service to his community, to Ontario and to Canada when she presented him with the King Charles III Coronation Medal.
He received his Photography Diploma from Fanshawe College in London and his Bachelor or Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Waterloo.
